| Frequently Asked Questions |
Regular maintenance saves money!!
How long does a piano tuning take?
Up to an hour on regularly tuned pianos. Considerably longer if not serviced regularly.
How often should I have my piano tuned?
It is recommended pianos be tuned every 4, 6 or 12 months depending on usage & temperature.
What if my piano is not tuned regularly?
Pianos not tuned will sound very tinny & drop pitch.
What is pitch?
Pitch or A440 pitch is also known as concert pitch.
Is pitch important?
Pianos not maintained at A440 will sound very dull & lifeless. All instruments have a universal concert pitch so they can be played together.
My piano is below pitch?
Most pianos can be pulled back up to pitch subject to age & condition.
NOTE; Pianos played constantly below pitch confuses hearing. When someone then goes on to play on a properly tuned piano it can sound wrong!
One of my notes sticks or is broken? One of my pedals doesn’t work.
Most minor repairs can be carried out in situ.
What is regulating?
Regulating is the equivalent to a 6,12, or 40 thousand mile service on a car. Every moving part is adjusted to give optimum performance. Regulating is recommended every 2 years
What is toning/voicing?
The hammer felts are pricked accordingly to produce either a harder or softer tone.
